Passenger Spotlight – Bermuda – NCL Breakaway

Passenger Spotlight – Bermuda – NCL Breakaway

Nicole joins us today to talk about her recent experience on the Norwegian Breakway Bermuda cruise during Memorial Day weekend out of New York City.

Q. What made you book this cruise?

I booked this cruise because my boyfriend and I were graduating college and this was our congratulations gift to ourselves. He was the one that suggested it since he had been on the Norwegian Gem previously. This was my first cruise and have been hooked ever since!

Q. What were your first thoughts about the Norwegian Breakaway?

It’s big . . .and looks more like a building when docked in Manhattan. The Breakaway is beautiful, modern, and surprisingly spacious. At no point (besides the muster drill) did I think there were 4,000+ people on the ship with us. There were plenty of quiet spaces where no one was around.

Q. What was your stateroom like and what perks were included, if any?

We booked a Balcony on deck 10 forward, room 10114 which was the third room from the front of the ship. A bit of a walk however extremely quiet. The room itself was clean and spacious and the views of Bermuda in port watching the America’s Cup were spectacular. The setup of the room had the bed next to the closet which was kind of cramped. In the future I would advocate for always booking a room where the bed is next to the balcony door, the room feels a lot bigger this way.

The perks that came with this stateroom were the Unlimited Open Bar / Beverage Package and 3 Nights of Specialty Dining. Since we have a Norwegian Cruise Line credit card we were able to cash in some points for some onboard credit, hello casino!

Q. What were your favorite things about Bermuda?

I loved this itinerary because we were able to spend 3 days in Bermuda since the ship overnighted there from Wednesday – Friday, it was like having a vacation within a vacation. Everyone in Bermuda is so incredibly nice and the island is very easy to navigate partially because the island is 20 miles long. We were able to very easily use the public bus system which great us a great tour of the island for a fraction of the cost and we did not have to worry about renting mopeds or driving!

Q. What were your favorite things about the Norwegian Breakaway?

The Waterfront was my favorite part of the ship, there was always a place to sit on the outdoor couches and enjoy a drink in the shade. The waterfront features outdoor seating in select restaurants and some outdoor bars. It seems that this area is underutilized since most of the action happens up on the pool deck, but that is fine with me. This area was truly missed when we went on the Norwegian Sky on a weekend cruise. My second time on the Breakaway the Thermal Suite would replace this as my favorite.

Q. Any tips you would give someone looking to book this cruise?

Book early, Bermuda cruises in the summer are in high demand, this will help you save money. Even if you do not have a specialty dining package, spend one night at Teppanyaki for an unforgettable hibachi experience.
Bring lots of sunscreen and come ready to party, Norwegian Breakaway has it all waiting for you!
