Scarlet Lady Thermal Suite: Photos & Tour

On the Virgin Voyages’ first ship, Scarlet Lady, we were onboard a back-to-back cruise. Scarlet Lady is the first cruise ship for Virgin Voyages, and they’re taking steps to set themselves apart from the “traditional” cruise experience. Wellness & fitness are at the forefront of activities and experiences aboard this new cruise line, and we got to experience the “Thermal Suite” at the Redemption Spa first hand. A quick trip down to deck 5, near Sailor Services & Razzle Dazzle, you will find the Redemption Spa.

We love relaxing in cruise ship thermal suites, and so we walked into Virgin Voyages’ thermal suite having only experienced them previously aboard Norwegian Cruise Line cruises. The Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady thermal suite offers a main hydrotherapy pool, mud room, salt room, 2 cold plunge pools, 1 heated plunge pool, heated quartz beds, a steam room and sauna.

Changing Booths & Lockers - Redemption Spa

Virgin Voyages offers daily passes to the thermal suite - on our sailing, it was $70 per person per day, and we chose to use the thermal suite while we were in port at Costa Maya. These passes give you unlimited access between 8AM-10PM, and you can come and go as you like. Once you check in with the front desk, you are given a robe and shoes (like a croc sandal) and escorted to the changing booths. The spa has lockers available for you to use during your massage or visit to the thermal suite.

** Update: There have been some reports from onboard Scarlet Lady that Virgin Voyages is now offering three-hour passes for $39 for Thermal Suite Access

Thermal Suite - Scarlet Lady

When you walk into the thermal suite, you will find complimentary fruit infused water, fresh towels, and a gender neutral restroom. Walking further, there is the main hydrotherapy pool, 3 plunge pools, and about 10 chairs. Under the windows, there is a giant quartz slab with different levels - all of which are heated. Beyond that, you will find the sauna, steam, mud, and salt rooms, along with 2 open air showers.

The Sauna

The Sauna is a room in which people aim to relax in dry heat. It may provide benefits for cardiovascular health that resemble those derived from exercise. Outside the door you will find hooks to hang our bathrobe prior to entering. The Sauna has an L shaped three level bench and 2 porthole windows.

Heated Quartz Slabs

Along the back wall of the thermal suite, there is a multi level heated quartz stone slab that you can “relax” on. . . .we use the term relax lightly as these were not comfortable to us.

Plunge & Hydrotherapy Pool

The center pool is a room temperature oval with a perimeter bench seat . The 2 plunge near the towels are the cold plunge pools and the one near the mud room is the warmer one. Each plunge pool has enough space for two people . . .
