NCL Announces Major Expansion Plans for Great Stirrup Cay – Pool, Trams, Vibe Beach Club and More
Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has announced significant expansion plans for Great Stirrup Cay, its private island destination in the Bahamas. These updates are set to debut later this year alongside the completion of a new multi-ship pier, enhancing the guest experience with new features, upgraded amenities, and added convenience.
A central part of the expansion is an oversized heated pool, designed to serve as a hub for relaxation and entertainment. Families will appreciate the new splash zone equipped with interactive water fountains for children, while adults can enjoy the swim-up bar—perfect for those taking advantage of NCL’s unlimited open bar package.
Guests will also benefit from a new welcome center and the introduction of a tram service, making it easier to navigate the island and start enjoying activities right away. These enhancements are part of a broader effort to streamline arrival and improve guest flow throughout the destination.
As part of extending shipboard favorites to shore, NCL is bringing the Vibe Beach Club to Great Stirrup Cay. Known for its adults-only atmosphere, Vibe will offer private cabanas, upgraded loungers, and a more exclusive beach experience. Another addition is Horizon Park, a new family-friendly outdoor space featuring lawn games and open areas for social gatherings, similar to the concept recently introduced on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway.
To complement the island’s existing beach charm, NCL will also introduce a new relaxation zone with shaded hammocks and tiki-style elements, continuing the Bahamian feel the island is known for.
A Brief History of Great Stirrup Cay
Great Stirrup Cay has been part of the Norwegian Cruise Line experience since 1977, making NCL the first cruise line to acquire a private island exclusively for its guests. Located in the Berry Islands chain of the Bahamas, the 268-acre island has long served as a tropical escape with white sand beaches, clear waters, and snorkeling opportunities. Over the years, NCL has invested in the island to improve amenities, dining, and shore excursions, but the upcoming expansion marks one of the most comprehensive upgrades to date.
