Key West Port Guide

Key West Port Guide

Overview

Recently we were able to explore Key West, FL onboard the Norwegian Sky on a 5 night Bahamas & Florida cruise from Miami. One of the main reasons I booked this cruise was because after pricing out a weekend stay just going outright to Key West, it was nearly triple the price overall, so I booked this as a “last minute cruise deal” two weeks prior to sailing.

At the Port

There are three cruise ship docks in Key West, we were the only ship in port when we were there, so we were able to dock right in Mallory Square – close to all of the best spots in Key West. Our ship was docked from 7AM-1:30PM which I initially thought wouldn’t be enough time to go out an explore much, but I was wrong. I was able to hit all the key tourist highlights within three hours. Right within the main port area there are a bunch of local shops, key lime pie stands, and the original Margaritaville.

Key West Top 3

All of the stops listed below are located on the same street a quick walk down Whitehead Street from Mallory Square will have you feeling like a local in no time.

The Southernmost Point of the Continental United States

What Times Square is to New York, the southernmost point is to Key West. You will have to stand in a line to get your photo with the iconic landmark but to be honest it moved rather quickly and if you make this your first stop on your Key West adventure, you shouldn’t have to wait too long.

Key West Lighthouse & Keepers Quarters Museum

Just up 88 steps, this lookout over Key West is a beautiful way to get a unique vantage point of Key West. Admission for adults is $10; kids ages 6 and up get in for $5, while children 5 and younger can enter for free. Honestly, I thought it was worth the money for the views alone, they also had a cute little museum that accompanied it with some local history of the lighthouse and of Key West.

Mile Marker 0

A spot typically overlooked, this route stretches from Key West to Maine US, known locally as the Overseas Highway, this is the conclusion of the 2,369 mile interstate that connects most major cities in the eastern U.S.
