Great Stirrup Cay is a 268 acre beach getaway is owned and operated by Norwegian Cruise Line. This private island is a main port of call for the weekend cruises out of Miami and Port Canaveral. This oasis sits just south of Bimini and north of Nassau.
FREESTYLE TIP – Get your tender tickets early, grab some breakfast in the Garden Cafe and wait for your earlier tender number to be called.
Since Great Stirrup Cay is mainly beachfront and many excursions you can spend the entire day relaxing and soaking up the sun. One of the major bonuses of this island is all of the food and your shipboard beverage package will work on the island. There are a few food spots such as a taco bar that has bomb tacos. Corona, tacos, and beach – what more could you ask for? Full disclosure tendering to this port is kind of a pain. If you are on a smaller ship the tender process is relatively easy though but you are still going to need to pick up a tender ticket before going ashore. If you have a shore excursion booked you will be assigned to one of the first tenders ashore. Larger ships are going to take twice the amount of time so pack your patience at this port. If you do not get a tender ticket early enough, you may be waiting to get to the island.
On the beach all loungers are free, clamshells are available to rent for ~$35. Floating mats can be rented for ~$15.
FREESTYLE TIP – Walk to the farthest beach in front of the smaller cabanas for a more private and quiet beach day under some palm trees.
A solid beach day had by all 🌴
